FOR PEACE.
Washington, May 24. Mr W. J. Bryan and M. Jean Jusserand, French Ambassador, have agreed to the terms of a peace treaty, providing that all questions impossible of settlement by 'diplomacy shall be submitted to an - international commission for investigation during at least one year wherein hostilities must not be commenced. A similar treaty is pending with Great Britain. SERIOUS FIGHTING. \ In the Dominican revolt serious fighting has taken place at Puertaplata on the northern coast where President Bordas raised the blockade. The rebels are marching towards the capital. Foreigners are safe yet. THE LOST LIGHTSHIP. Halifax, May 24. The battered hull of the lost lightship was found among the breakers ■ of Liscomb Island. The vessel struck during a fog. £>ix bodies have been recovered. All hope is abandoned for,the remainder. The crew of twentyfive were Scotchmen. The steamer Dufferin found the lifeboats and is continuing the search as some of the crew may have scrambled ashore on Rocky Island 'which is in the neighbourhood. / The- lightship was making its maiden voyage from the builders _ at Paisley, Scotland. (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) WAR IN ALBANIA. Durazzd, May 24. The Malissori refused to march against the _ insurgents alleging that their duty was to protect the King of Albania. The gendarmerie, under Dutch officers, is marching on Schiak un. der cover of guns mounted on hills round Durazzo. Heavy . firing is in progress in the direction of Schiak. The foreign residents at their own reqwst were embarked aboard the Italian warships. The naval detachments (excepting the Legation guards) have rejoined their respective vessels. The members of the International Commission went to parley with the insurgents who have captured four Dutch officers. The commission returned with the insurgent representatives who wish to confer with the King. The latter accompanied by his staff and the Italian admiral have landed. "ALL WELL." Vienna, May 24.
