Methodist Young Women

LITERARY AND MUSICAL SOCIETY. The young women of the Methodist Church held their last night, (their monthly musical and elocutionary evenings) at the residence ol' Mrs T. Harvey. It, was a happy and highly' successful gathering. In a few well-chosen words Mrs Walker welcomed the Rev. and Mrs W. 11. E. Abbey and nominated the former as pie- j sident of the society. After his election the revorend gentleman expressed pleasure at being present! He regarded the society as one of the most promising departments of church work. The secretary (Miss E. Astridge) then read the minutes of the previous meeting-. The programme for the evening was opened by Mrs T. G. Vincent, who played a pianoforte solo. Miss Mabel Grey followed, singing in an effective manner the song "Two Sad Gray Eyes." Those present then lis- j toned with pleasure to another ' piano solo, pleasingly played bv i Miss Ella Thompson'. '"Three Green Bonnets," an old-time favourite song, was sung nicely by Miss Dorothy Goldsmith. A now-almost-forgotten song. "My Grandfather's Clock," came to liglu again through the singing of Miss Haste-. A prelly little recitation, entitled "The Round of Life," was given with power and expression by Miss Mabel Grey. The president also recited a humorous piece, hearing the name "But They Didn't." A pianoforte duel, carefully interpreted, was played by the Misses Pink and Malcolm. /Mrs .'Abbey finished up the programme by singing "I Wonder if Ever We Rose."

During the evening members of the society 7 took part in an amusing dialogue, entitled "The '■'Know-it-all Ladies' Club." Tl was a clover and laughable skit on a women's meeting". The whole programme demonstrated the usefulness of the Literary and Musical Society, in bringing out the talents of tho young people.

A committee was set up to prepare a syllabus and to report on oilier matters of importance-. Supper was provided by Mrs Harvey. Tbo president heartily thanked Ihe hostess for the use of her beautiful home. The next meeting was fixed for Monday, May °.")th, at the Parsonage.
