Levin District High School.
(Concluded.) It is notable that for several years past the attendance during the spring has been affected by some sickness epidemic either measles or scarlet fever. The usual precautions to prevent the spread of infection are always taken, such as the exclusion from school attendance of contacts, yet, notwithstanding' this, the disease, whatever it may be, runs its course. The only conclusion is that some parents are not sufficiently alive to the epidemic spreading by permitting those whose attendance is forbidden the free run of the streets. During the year the members of the staff were singularly free from sickness, Miss M. Landress alone having to take a month's sick leave. Miss J. C. Mackenzie capably filled her place during the period. "The Staff. "By comparison with former years there have been few changes in the staff. Miss Tonkinson, assistant, left on June 27 to take up a similar position on the staff of South Wellington School. Miss Stuckey, who had for a number of years been connected with the school first as a pupil and latterly as assistant teacher, left, on August 29 to take up well-deserv-ed promotion as head teacher at Kaiporon) schood, near Masterton. Prior to her departure the teachers and those scholars who had been more immediately connected with her, made her a presentation. The position renderva. Misses Stuckey and Tonkinson were filled respectively by Mr Fobs (October 4) aud Miss Brown (Juno 30). On February 3 Miss J. Rayne commenced duties aa a pupil-teacher. There aro now thirteen on the staff, an increase of one on the preceding year, viz., headmaster, two secondary class assistants, six primnry class assistants, two pupilteachers and two probationers. Inspectors' Visits, •j 4th Mr Bakewell paid « visit of inspection on November 3rd Mr Fleming, Chief Inspector, accompanied by Mr Bakewell, made the usual annual visits. Reports of these visits have been forwarded to your committee. In conclusion I should like to mention that the work of th<* year has been earned on with the utmost smoothness and an entire absence of friction. T would lioro express my appreciation of Hie whole-hearted and spontaneous support. I have had from overy member of the staff in :u - - I'iving at this desirable result. Tours faithful Iv, .7.
