Levin Chamber of Commerce
THE ANNUAL MEETJNG. Levin Chamber of Commerce held its annual general meeting last night, Mr K. S. Lancaster presiding. There were, also present Messrs B. K. Gardener, C. IT Pvke, ¥. G. Hoe, A. E. Haswell.'l). W. Matheson, J. Robertson, M.P., T. Broome, G. P. Brown, 11. INTewport, D. Smart and A. Grover (secretary).
Messrs Tackson 8r05.,. Hamilton, wrote asking for particulars as to the Chamber's proposals for erecting party telephones in Levin district : also stntin.g that the writers would be glad to give any aid or information in their power. A letter was read from the I'rime Minister intimating that the ohor of land (near Levin) for the purpose of closer settlement conveyed to him through the Levin Chamber of Commerce, would be reported upon by the Land Purchase Commissioners. The area in reference- is one of GOO acres, situated near the cross roads at Heatherlea, and in which the golf links arc included.
Tt was resolved that Mr Lancaster be appointed n delegate from the Chamber to attend a conference of local bodies to be held in "Foxton shorily, whereat will be discussed the question of' how best to acquire control of the Foxton wharf by the Foxton Harbour Board from the Government. At present the revenue from the wharf amounts to from £1500 to £1700 not per annum The report and balance-sheet of the chamber for the year ended 12th May showed a credit balance of £4 7s fid cash.
The election of officers for theensuing twelve months resulted as follows: President, Mr E. S. Lancaster (re-elected): vice-presi-dent,'Mr D. Smart: secretary, Mr A.. P!rover (re-elected).
