Horowhenua Trotting Club.

In response to an advertisement there was a fair attendance at the Grand Hotel on Saturday evening to consider the advisableness of forming a trotting club. Mr D. Green was voted to the chair. In reply to questions as to cedure, Mr 11. Holland explained that it was necssary to form a club, and state tho membership and amount of stakes the club 111len ded to be paid, when applying to the New Zealand Trotting Association for registration. Mr Hodgman proposed and Mi Rose seconded that a trotting club to be caljed "The Horowhenua Trotting Club" be formed.

Carried. •. Some discussion ensued on tne matter of securing a course, Mr R. I). Wallace remarking that it

was probable tho present lace- [ course would be cut up and disposed of if the Levin Pacing Club failed to get back its totalisator permit this year. If Avas explained by Mr Procter that he understood that a track on pn~ vate property could be obtained if necessary. On the motion of Mr Hodgman, seconded by Mr Fox, a working committee was set up. The following were elected to the 'working committee: Messrs F. Carmont, W. Stickles, D. Green, L. McDonald, J. Arcus, Winiata (senior), 11. -E. Fox, H. Holland, J. Fairley, W. Moynihan, T. Sowman, W. Manning, Willoughby, J. P. McDonald, R. McDonald, T. Bevan, R. Nicholson, Hem a Te Ao, A. Bright, H. Bright, E. Porter, . Dalzicll, C. Ross, W. Ryder, E. Jiuld, E. Yuille, H. Barnett, J. Smith. E. Henderson, 13. Naylor, W. Bevan, F. Nicholson, R. llore. (t. Noble, M. Suhan, Hira I'arata, T. Ivingdon. Mr Green said that it would be a good thing for the district if the club was got going. He would give twenty guineas to the fends if the club was formed.

Mr Holland stated that Mr J. Smith would give £-'{0 to the funds. He (Mr Holland) would give £20.

Mr Rose said that if they got a good club and arranged a good programme it. would be an insult to Levin if the authorities refused a permit. Mr Procter considered that though they might not get a totalisator permit they could get a ■trotting meeting. Plenty of trotting clubs held meetings without the machine.

It was decided that the working committee as set up i-eport progress at a meeting to be held on Mav 22nd.

Mr T. A. Nash, mayor of Palmerston North, has definitely declared his intention of contesting the Palm erst on scat at the general election towards the close of the present year.
