Oil Thursday afternoon Mr F. 'Rotter gave a demonstration at his farm, lumbcrley road, of the Treloar milking machine to a number of farmers, some of whom came from Manakau. The whole plant came through the test satisfactorily and those present appeared satisfied with the results obtained. Two notably strong points aboutthe machine are its simplicity and its clean milking; the amount of milk obtained by "stripping'' being very small. Tts combined suction and pressure acFion has not affected the cows' teats, and the cows are quite easy to milk by hand though they have been milked by machines all through Ihe season. A good point about the Treloar machine is that the eups do not. drop off the teivts as is often the case with other machines, and they do not require any support to keep them on. After the milking ihe machines were washed and the ease and quickness witli which this was done was a surprise to Ihe visitors. That the Treloar is steadily gaining in the estimation of dairy farmers is proved by the fact that sixty-two machines were installed in various parts of ITorowhenua County last year, and in twenty-two cases they were substituted for other machines. The average return of butter fat from each cow for the last three months (obtained by Air Retter) shows a big increase compared with the average for the same months last year, when the cowb were milked by luiud. l (1 or February, 01 cows( fed on muize) averaged 20.21bs of butter fat; for February, IUI4, 58 cows averaged 2-3.Tibs; for March, ll)iy 51 cows (fed on maize) averaged 19.91b5; for March, 1914, 5T cows (fed on maize) averaged 24.Tibs; for April, 1 91.0, 00 cows averaged lG.2lbs; and for April this year 4 the average return from 50 cows was I9.^lbs.
