Fine weather again favours the divisional training camp at Takapau and to-day is being devoted to tactical exercises, in which practically all the troops will bo in action ; the scheme of operations being a test principally oi the efficiency and control of'officers of different commands. General Sir lan Hamilton and stall". General Godley and staff, and the Hon. J. Allen are present. The patient suffering from diphtheria has been sent to Waipukurau Hospital. The disease apparently was not contracted in the
camp. The general health oi the men is splendid and the majority seem to be thoroughly satisfied with their lot as soldiers. STRUCK OFF. Wellington This Day. This morning" upon motion of the Canterbury District Law Society the Court of Appeal made absolute an order to strike Walter Shaw, of Timaru, off the rolls of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. COURT OF APPEAL. Wellington, This Day. An appeal from the judgment of Mr Justice Chapman in granting a new trial in the case of Frank Harris and Co., Ltd., and John George Bestall v. Roro Hakaraia, came before the Court of Appeal this morning. The claim was for ;£fioo, the balance of the price (£1000) agreed upon as the price for the erection of a monument to the memory of the late Major Kemp, at Wanganui. The jury found in favour of plaintiffs, but upon an application by defendant, the judge ordered a new trial upon the ground that the verdict of the jury was against the weight of evidence. Mr Myers appears for the applicants, and Mr Gray, K.C. and Mr Fell for respondent. Argument is proceeding. NEW ZEALAND PBODTTCE ABROAD. Wellington, This Day. Mr Wesley Spragg, managing director of the New Zealand Dairy Association at Auckland, who returned by the Ruahine from London to-day, stated in an interview with a Post representative that new business regarding the export of dairy produce of a large and promising nature is opening up in America, although for the immediate present it has been slight, ly checked again. At Washington he interviewed iJr. Atesburg, the chief officer entrusted with the carrying out of the Pure-food regulations; and asked that the certificate of the New Zealand Government Dairy Department should be accepted by the American authorities, as proof of the freedom of New Zealand butter, from adulteration or preservatives. Ho left Washington with the conviction that the heads of the Departs ment were favourable to such an arrangement. In the case of New Zealand butter in England the dairy market for the season opened up very well and at. good prices. The trouble caused by the industrial trouble in New Zealand at the end of last year disrupted everything and the market got demoralised and has never recovered. Incidentally, Mr Spragg said, it is estimated as a result of the strike, through the subsequent market becoming congested and produce vessels reaching England irregularly, that the dairying population of New Zealand has lost at least £120,000. A MAYOR IN HOSPITAL. New Plymouth, This Day. Borough Councillors attended the public hospital this morning to witness the declaration of the new mayor, Mr J. E.' Wilson, who is an inmate. Mr Wilson has typhoid fever in a mild form. Councillor Clark is acting as dep-uty-Mayor during Mr Wilson's illness. .
