The Area Group Officer, at Palmerston North, wrote expressing it hope that Levin employers would facilitate the presence of all senior cadets at the'inspection of sen- • ior cadets in Palnierston North on Monday 18th May. The Mayor and councillors of Levin also were invied to attend. It is understood that several will avail themselves of the invitation. ROAD OVERSEER'S REPORTr The road overseer's report ran: "Nothing has been done but general maintenance, with the exception of the metalling of Beach road. The wet weather has shown wheixj metal is required. As far as can be seen 1500 yards of metal (including screens) are required. It would have been well if the crushing of metal had been gone on with, but apparently the County Council will be using the crusher for some time yet, and it is pos. sible there will be water in the pit by that time. All the broken metal which was stored in Gibson's pit has been used, so it will be necessary to .keep going with pit metal. Everything in connection with the water was satisfactory and in ggod working order. Nothing has yet been done in regard to the bridge painting. On being interviewed the contractor said that owing to the rush of wort he had been unable to do anything with it, but he would do the work as soon as possible." Councillor Parker asked if the County Council had any prior right to the use of the crusher. The mayor said no: first come first served had been the rule. .Councillor Lancaster explained that the council was not stuck for broken metal—there was a heap available in Tiro Tiro road, and he believed that the crusher soon would be Available for the use of Yhe borough. PRICE OF GAS. The report of the gas manager on the municipal gasworks, is noted to-day in a separate article. GELIGNITE. Councillor France brought up the case in regard to gelignite storage. He had heard of five cases of gelignite that were stored near the site of a recent fire. The Town Clerk intimated that he had' been making inquiries of tjS&total quantity stored, but owing to pressure of his many duties he had not been able to complete his enquiries. He would complete his enquiries shortly. RUBBISH SERVICE. The advertisement of the council inviting notices from townspeople who were desirous of hpving a rubbish cart run in Levin, was reported 'on by the Town Clerk. He said that only two burgesses had signified their willingness to subscribe —Mr F. W. Jones and Mr M. J. SuHan. INSTALLATION U±< MAYOR.
