LONDON MARKETS
Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Wellington, have received cable advice from their, London office dated 23rd instant, as follows: —
Frozen Meat.—The market is dull and declining. Since our last cable prices for heavy-weight mutton are £d lower, and for any other description any change in prices is in favour of buyers. For light-heights of frozen lamb prices are unchanged. Oilier descriptions are Jd per lb lower. Beef.- The market is very weak Chilled is slow at prices quoted for frozon.
We also learn from our London house by enble, dated 23rd instant --The wool market is very firm. We expect a slight rise in merinos in the April-Mny series. No change is expected in crossbreds.
Tlioro is an apple tree in Mr I John Grant's orchard (says the Woodville Examiner) that is considered a great curiosity just now. This is a tree iliaf Mr Stratford, the Government orclmrdist, gave a demonstration on about six months ago. Mr Stratford did all the pruning- himself, and gave a reason for every cut he made. Well, this tree blossomed beautifully' in the spring, but shortly after being sprayed for codlin moth it became sickly iu appearance and bore very little fruit. Two months ago the tree blossomed a second time, and the second crop of fruit appears better (ban the first. We know there is nothing very wonderful m a.i apple tree holding two crops at the same time, hut the strangest part of the story is yet to bo told. A month ago the tree blossomed for the third time, and to-day the tree is holding three different crops of fruit, and there are indications of it blossoming for tlie fourth time in one season! Last week Mr Stratford came over specially to have a look at this wonder, and said he had never read or heard of such a happening before.
