King's Theatre.
PROFESSOR D'ALMAINE
A night's real fun awaited the patrons of the above theatre on Saturday evening last, and although a very wet night was experienced, a good audience greeted Professor D'Almaine 011 his opening for a two night season. Quite a revelation in hypnotism was given by the Professor, and hearty applause l and laughter was the key note after each scene. It came as a'surprise to many that Professor D'Almaine showed entirely new scenes; unlike any displayed here before. Perhaps the most laughable was the baby scene, when two of the subjects are made babies, and two more the babies' fathers. Tt is hoped that the Professor will see his way clear to repeat this scene and the blacksmith scene. One notable feature of the above performance is that every word spoken by Professor D'Almaine can be heard in every part of the building. A "subject" was placed in a fortyeight hours' "hypnotic sleep and taken to Palmer's show window, where he (the subject) is on view, and will be awakened at the rise of'the curtain to-night. Professor D'Almaine tells us that the awakening is a special feature, it requiring the assistance of five strong men to hold the subject on the bed. On Saturday afternoon another "subject" was set playing the piano in Thompson's shop, and it took four men all their time to carry the "subject'' down to the- theatre to seat him at the piano there - -but" the awakening was done by the Professor from the stage by a few passes, when tho subject, by degrees, played less, and finally woke- up rubbing his eyes, as in doubt as to where he really was. This awakening was greeted with hear--Ity applause. To : night a special new programme will be shown.
