ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Hockey Association was held in the club room of 'Ik 1 Levin Hotel last Wednesday cve>.ing. Present: vV. Brqu//h----ton, A. Sm;irj, J. Deaiv, A. Dixu" H. .Tudd (Levin), N. Horrobin, IL.J Butler (Levin Y.M.U.A.), W* Walton (Levin Ladies), J. Bovis •T. King (Shannon), E. Kirkland .Shannon Ladies), ('. Morgan, -J. Smith (Moutoa), Vj. 11. Claridge (Otaki Ladies), 1). Wilson (Tainui Ladies), Horo Ivarauti (Oliau Ladies), .1. Davison (Otaki sub-union). Mr W. Broughton occupied the chair. The balance-sheet, showing a i-redit balance of £5 (5s 7d, and thp report for the past year, as read, were adopted. A letter was received from Mr T. Davison, of Otaki, stating that (hey had met with a hearty response to their efforts to get sufficient clubs to form the sub-union ;ind as six clubs bad signified their willingness to play, they deemed it advisable to form a sub-union and forwarded an application for affiliation to the Horowhenua Hooker Association.
In reply to a question from Mr Davison (who was present), it was .'xplained that tlie matter rested entirely with the Horowhenua ITockev Association.
Mr Dean considered (he formation of the sub-union a good thing. He failed to see any objection to it, and w.\s entirely in its favour. Mr Bovis moved that the application be granted. Mr Dean seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr Broughtou congratulated Mr Davison on the success that had attended his efforts. He hoped the sub-union would be a uccess. Mr Davison, in reply, emphaised the fact that the sub-union was not being formed m a hostile pirit to the Horowlienua Union. Mr Broughton announced that Mr Green had offered a cup for tho winners of the competition in the ■m x'on. On motion of Mr Davison f;>n behalf of the sub-union) a hearty vote of thanks was accorded o Mr Green for his generosity. An application from the Foxton Huh for affiliation was granted. A letter was received from the Auckland Referees' Association sking that the Horowhenna Hoc-l.-ey Association send a delegate iii a conference to be held in some ; "ntral town to consider the ques'ion of reforming the New Zealand 'icferees 1 Association which had lapsed some time ago. The New Zealand Hockey Association had .f.'iven permission for such an association to bo formed. Mr Broughton said the formai ion of a New Zealand Referees' Association was a good idea, and t was decided to send a delegate ■'I the proposed conference. The offer of Mr I. F. Parsonson 'f liristchurch) to act on behalf of rhe Horowhenna Association at he meeting of the New Zealand ■lockey Association was accepted. Mr Dean said that the hockey ■ lubs Avoro greatly indebted to Mr '•roughton for marking out the rounds and he thanked him on ! 'half of the Levin clubs for the ' 'me and work he had put into it. Mr Bo vis seconded the motion, lying it was a treat ,to play on ! he well-marked-of? grounds of ■icvin. The motion was carried. In returning thanks Mr Brou- ■ lit oil stated lfie willingness to as- • ist hockey players in every posible way.
Mr Judd, on behalf of Mr li.iluinster, moved that tne provision ii rule seven that four unofficial •ait tee be resident m the same i own as the secretary be struck out and that the following be substituted: "that the : Management committee consist of \iie secretary and one member of •ach club." It was optional for lubs to appoint one of their own ■Members. They could, if they • ished, appoint a person residing n the same place as the secretary. Yhe matter had been up before ■.Mid lie wanted to see it thrashed out.
Mr Brought on saw a difficulty in the way. If they had to depend on the presence of outside

He suggested' to Mr •tiuld to alter the motion making provision for at least two members of the management eominit;ee being" resident in the same )'ace. as the secretary. Mr Judd remarked that in any asc they would have two members in Levin as it had two clubs and each would have a representative. Mr Smart agreed witK Mr HroughtonV suggestion. Mr Davison said that if members of the management committee resided in Levin it would meet 'lie difficulty.

Mr Judd's election was received will) hearty applause and Mr Broughton. in declaring bim eleeled. said that the delegates had done a wise thing: Mr -Tndd had done his work well in a thankless
position arid would continue to do so. He was glad he had accepted office again, and it would- not be Mr Judd's fault if tiie Association was not u success. Three hearty cheers were accorded Mr Judd followed by the meeting singing "iVr He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr Judd returned thanks for his re-election. , He had done his best in the past and would do the fsaixie during fche coming year. . committee, Messrs Ek Kirkland, C. Morgan, A. Dixon, D.. Green, J. Dean, A. Smart. Mr Claridge moved that there be three selectors lor the Horowhenua Union. Mr King seconded this. Mr Dixon moved an amendment" that there be only one selector for the representative team. After some discussion the motion appointing three selectors was carried, and Messrs W. BrOugliton, J. Bovis and D. P. Porteous were chosen. Delegate to the New Zealand Hockey Association : Mr J. F. Parsonson ; vice-president to the New' Zealand Hockey Association, Mr J. Dean: selectors for the ladies' representative team, Messrs Horo Karauti, J. Davison, J.
