himself once more ill the possession of the sense of which ho had so long' been deprived. But it was only for an hour. While still, in his feeble way, recognising and greeting those brought to his bedside, he was again stricken with blindness, and remained sightless to tlie end. A MAN\S BEAIiD. Washington, April 11. What is the value of a man's beard? This is the novel question the learned justices of the Supreme Court of the United States have been asked to determine. A prominent American lawyer, Mr E. O'Sullivan. values his own beard at ,£12,500. Mr O'Sullivan. who is 05 years of ago,, and was formerly District Attorney in Now Orleans, declares that he was forcibly deprived of his hirsute adornment on election day in November, 1908, when, as he alleges, it was cut off by Paul Eelix William Stiles. Til consequence of the ill-treat-ment and the humiliation he thus suffered, Mr O'Sullivan, in 1.911, brought a suit against Mr Stiles from whom he claimed damages to the amount of 50,000 dollars under the Federal Civil Rights Act. I The case is now before the SuI preme Court on appeal.
