THE HOLIDAY
(To the Editor)
Sir. -I was highly amused at Mr I. W. Thompson's defence for his infraction of our resolution. It is said that "a lame excuse is bettre than no <>xeuso :'' As Mr Thompson was so completely cornered, he. as a last resource, attempted to draw an analogy between a retailer's business and that of a newspaper. The comparison is absent, and his defence calls for no answer. It must be patent to all well-wishers for tho maintenance of holiday closing that if this open violation of our movement is repeated it will result in the various retailors remaining open, and thereby deprive our Levin shop-assistants of their well-earned holiday. Ido not wish to prolong the controversy, and therefore i will hand over Mr Thompson to be dealt with by iho verdicf of the public. Yours, oic,
A RETAILER
