holidays in levin
(To the Editor)
Sir,—l presume •'lietailer' is the head or tail or both of the Retailers' Association, ami therefore I depart from my custom to take 110 notice of anonymous writers, especially when they are unscrupulous enough to attack individual citizens. In the first place, Mr Editor, why did he not rub it into you for serving your large number of customers with The Chronicle, and consequently being one of the causes of the attack upon me. He should also have a tilt at the three. Wellington papers for daring to publish on Saturday. I was candid with the gentleman who got tlie requisiti t for that day, and also advertised that people could get their papers. There - fore there was nothing su'rreptitions about my opening an hour in (ho morning and evening. They certainly suggested that I could sell on the footpath, but backdoor trade does not appeal to me T like "Eetailer's" proposal about "assistants." How many arc here in the newsagen'ey business in Levin, and how many worked? The suggestion that a newsagent or hairdresser should close for so many days is bordering on ?he ridiculous, and would not be thought of in any other town. In conclusion, why ventilate the domestic affairs of the> association in public print ? Nothing will do the institution more harm. It looks as if ""Retailer" was actuated by spite, and would ore- leopardiso the existence of f] )( . ;issoC"ia-p.-,ri wi grt one on to sMiii'iie.-- Voi irs , t if., ■,\ THOMPSON.
