The Chronicle PUBLISHED DAILY LEVIN. THURSDAY, APRIL 16, 1914 REVOLT IN THE NAME OF UNITY.

Tli lawless proceedings of Sir Edward Carson and his fellow rebels in the .North of Ireland will put Great Britain in periLous plight long aiter the present pother is done with. . Lawlessness is indefensible by all who are not Anarchists; it is no better to be lawless for a political purpose than for a social one; and he who offends against the Constitution is false to patriotism despite whatever sophistries may be used to disguise his act and cloak the real incidence of his misdoing. The British suffragettes were quick to seize upon the effective weapon provided them through the action of the Northern rebels: to-day we have the spectacle of a British Socialist Conference, calling upon the British Army's rank and tile if) follow the example of Bullygough and his fellow falsities in uniform. The news comes in a cablegram from Loudon dated 15th April. The cablegram sets out that "The British Socialist Conference has passed a resolution condemning the hypocrisy of the Liberal 'place-holders' and 'placehunters' in attempting to exploit the Ulster crisis by raising the bogus cry of 'The Army versus the People,' and drew attention to the action of the Government in'imprisoning strikers., and employing soldiers to shoot down the workers, while it allowed Sir Edward Carson to organise an armed revolt. The Conference appealed to the Army to remember this when called upon to intervene in a trado dispute." Surely such pronouncements will make the more responsible ones amongst the raisers of revolt in the name of unity pause in their rush towards Anarchy. Unfortunately, though, the bad example has been set, and the unreasonable of all sections already are hastening along the road that leads to Constitutional destruction.'
