Levin Hockey Club.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Levin Hockey Club was held in Mr D. Smart's rooms last evening. There was a fair attendance. Mi- Dean was elected chairman. Mr Howe apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr Smart, secretary, and read the report and balance-sheet for the season 1913. The report stated that the season opened with fourteen mmbers and twelve of these becamei financial. The Glackin Cup had been won twice by Levin, and there was every chance of the club winning it again. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 13s 1071. Mr J. E. Dean had given £1 Is to the club and Mr Freckling 10s Gd. The gifts indicated they were "sports" in the highest sense of the word, and the meeting should record its high apreciatjon of their generosity. Mr H. "Walkley and Mr J. Robertson, M.P., presented hockey sticks and should be thanked for their gifts. Mr Walkley's stick for the' player taking most interest in the club was won by A. Smart and Mr Robertson's for the most improved new player by J. Thompson. Three members of the club (Messrs Eastker, Wilson, and Smart) secured a place inthe representative team. Eight games were played, four being won and four drawn. Goals scored by the club totalled 21 and against 9. With the new season it behoved all players to train assiduously. Mr .Dixon drew attention to an item for motor fares in the balance sheet. The club should not pay these charges. Mr Broughton referred to the item of lGs appearing as a charge against the club in connection with Mr Brewster's send-off. If hockey enthusiasts desired to give anyone a send-off they should pay for it themselves and not let the club pay for it. Mr Txidd said if the club was going to pay for such functions it would soon be short of funds. The report and balance-sheet as read were adopted and the following officers elected:—Mr J. Robertson, M.P., patron; Mr J. E. Dean, president; vise-pres. Messrs Freckling, Hall, Mackenzie, Green, Suhan, Gardener, Walkley, Jones and Easther; captain, Horo Karauti; vice-captain, C. Howe; secretary and treasurer, A. Smart; management committee, Messrs Broughton, Dixon, Walker, Winter, captain, vice-captain and secretary; selection committteo: Messrs Broughton, Dean and Easther; auditor, Mr B. -Tudd; delegates to the Fnion, Messrs Dixon, Broughton, Easther and Dean; vice-president to the Uniion, Mr C. B. Easther. New members:—R. S. Young, R, MacDerniott, F. Martin, G. Cooper, R. Pringlc, Gr. Walton, and A. Shaw. Mr Broughton proposed'a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Easther (who retired from the captaincy) for his good work last year. Without him the (dub would have gone to pieces. He always did his share of work and oft-times the work of others as well. He felt Mr Easther .would assist them in future if necessary. Mr Howe seconded the motion. The motion was carried iinani-

mously, the gathering rising and I singing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." Mr Easther expressed his sur-

prise at the extent of the good I feeling shown. He had not expected anything like it. He thanked them sincerely for their kindly sentiments. Mr Broughton proposed that it bo a recommendation to the incoming committee "That no funds belonging" to the club be paid out for send-oft's or such-bkc functions." " Mi- Dixon seconded the proposal. Mr Dean suggested that the recommendation be altered to a di- I

rect motion. This was agreed to by the mover and seconder, and it was carried unanimously. Mr Easther considered that it would be better if two teams of equal strength were selected from th present A and B teams. It would be good for hockey, and a great improvement on the present system. Mr Judd agreed and proposed that the selectors be given a free hand in putting two equal teams in the field instead of the A and B teams as at present. Mr Dean seconded the motion which was carried without dissent. Mr Broughton explained the management committee's position in respect to the proposed new sub-union at Otabi. It was the general opinion that their was little chance of the New Zealand Association allowing the formation of a sub-union. The subscription was fixed at 2s Gd. Colours for both teams black, except when playing against each other, when otic team must wear white guernseys or shirts.

Hearty votes of thanks to the, chairman and to Mr D. Smart for the imp of his office were carried and the meeting closed.
