Levin Brass Band.
HALF YEARLY MEETING
The half-yearly meeting of the Levin Brass Band was held in the Foresters' Hall on Wednesday night, when a majority of tho members were present. The bandmaster, in presenting his report, saiil that the band had advertised for new members some time back and had met with good response. At the time the band's finances were in a sound condition, and acting on the advice of his committee he had proceeded to Wellington and purchased several new instruments which had rather depleted the band's exchequer. However, there was a balance on the right side. The instruments had been allotted and five new members would take their place at- the stands next practice night. On the motion of Mr Iv. Burt, seconded by Mr R. Close, Mr Davison was re-elected bandmaster for the ensuing six months. Mr GeoLe.stejr was elected deputy-band-master, and Mr O. Bra by n bandsergeant. Messrs Davison, Close, Tuohy and Brabyn were nominated as members of committee, the subsequent ballot resulting in the three®first-named being elected.
Mr Iv. Burt said he had a very pleasant duty to perform. On behalf of the members of the band who had taken this opportunity of expressing their appreciation of Mr Davison's efforts in the interests of thei band, he would ask Mr Davison's acceptance of a silvermounted ebony baton, suitably inscribed. Mr Burt, iu making the presentation, referred to Mr Davison's untiring zeal and honesty of purpose, and his willingness at all times. Mr Davison, in reply, said it was the surprise of his life. What lie had done for the band he would do again. If the members were satisfied he was amply repaid foi anything he had done. He was always willing to sacrifice a little to further the interests of the band. Ho thanked them very sincerely for their handsome present which he would always treasure. In conclusion he would like to thank Messrs Close and Lester for their hearty co-operation during the term just ended. Mr Matheson said he would have to apologise for the other band trustees as they were unavoidably absent. He (Mr Matheson) said that the bandmaster had certainly worked hard, and used every effort to bring the band up to concert pitch. He had much pleasure in wishing Mr Davison and the members of the band good health and good luck.
