EVENTS IN SHANNON

(By our Resident Representative). FIRE AT TOKOMAIIU. The peaceful repose of Tokomaru was rudely disturbed on Saturday morning by the destruction by fire of Mr Gregg's fiaxmill and scrutching shed, known as the Temukanui Mill. Between 5 and 5.30 a.m. the foreman was roused *by the whistle of a passing tram and awoke to find the mill in a -. blaze. The fire had such a hold "on the building that it was impossible to say where or how it had originated. Nothing could be done to save the place, and the r Temukanui Mill was soon a mass of smoking ruins. Mr Gregg . values the buildings and plant desiroyed at £2858. He is insured for £1100 in the Guardian Insurance Co., so that the disaster lands him in a loss of over £'1500. * FOOTBALL. There was a football match on the recreation reserve on Saturday afternoon between the lownies and th Farmers. McLelland cap- , tained the Townies, and Willie Moynihan the Farmers. Mr Hooper, of •Foxton, and the Misses Gray conT tributed to the enjoyment of the , evening by their singing. An . excellent supper was provided.
