"Snowflack" Fair.
The Fair was brought to a conclusion on Thursday evening. Good business was done, and any produce, not sold by the stallholders was quickly disposed of by the auctioneer at bargain prices. People staggered . homeward with huge pumpkins, part sacks of potatoes, bundles of other vegetbles and cases of fruit. They will not require to visit the green'Viocer for a few days to come. There was a good crowd present, all bent on-making the most of 'lie Inst night. During the evening Mr Jesse White gave his M'-inion on the matter of uplifting humanity, which he studied dur:ng seven years of unemployment. The item was keenly appreciated
'v (he audience, and ueservedly •. it was vow good. The refills of the guessing- competitions ■vas announced. , Weight of sheep ( M) 1}), winner Mr G. Milnes, who messed the exact weight. -Miss Kemp won the prize for the nearest guess to the number of nails in the bottle, guessing 149, the correct number being 141. Mr N'eyland guessed the Minister's weight exactly: 10 stone 9$ lbs. A! iss McTaggert was the first to unearth "Pawelka" (Mr WicklitTe) and thus won a gas iron given by the municipal gasworks, management. The ironing competition was won by Master D. Wallace, Mi- Vernor second, and Mr T). W. Mathcson third. Mr G. Milnes and Mr H. Murray were very good. The auctioneer (Mr Simpson) was assisted by Messrs Milnes, Smellie, Mottcrsiiead and lvevs. -
