PROS AND ANTIS
(To the Editor)
Sir Your correspondent "Anti llvd Flag*' writes showing his delestatiou of Socialism, and is as lull of frotli and fuss as the soda water bottle when the wire comes oft", as is ".1.U.U.T." • I read "J.r.U.TV letter with the open and broad mind of a born New Zealander, and must say 1 was partial towards his sentiments.
'-Anti .Mod Flag" says that Socialism is as undcfinable .is the mist on the mountain side, thereby admitting that it is easily defined and has been defined as often as the mountain mists. It is true that the New Zealander can detect the false ring in political speechmaking; that is why there was a change in the representative of this (Otaki) electorate at the last election T didn't know that Americans. Australians and Britishers were named foreigners, T always thought it was "the Englishspeaking race that ruled the world." This shrewd New Zealander always believes in "live and let live" : he is a Socialist, he doesn't believe in paying high prices for land, rent, and life's necessities, so that a minority will still have the power of keeping his nose on the grindstone. But I ask how often the ''public good" and the whisky seller put their hands in (heir pockets for the Q'ood of the New Zealaiider?"' "Anti 8.F." says that New Zealand has a reputation for favourable conditions for workers, and yet lie says "If T had twopence." Can you imagine a man in such a land without, twopence?,-' Further on "Anti li-TV £'ives his definition of Socialism which he says is undcfinable and he quotes the golden rule and adds "owe no man anyfhing but comradeship." There is no need to revert to barbaric methods for relief, but the New Zealand worker finds that the law is dealt out to him hv barbaric methods, and "Ant! B.F.'' would have him submit to the ruling of a nest of tyrants. Await ine" a reply from "Anti Tv. i 4 V. T am, etc.. NEW ZEALANDER. Levin, March ?Sfli, 1!) M.
