EVENTS IN SHANNON

Stephenson (skip) beat Greatbach and Knowles (skip) by 2-1 to in. This game concluded the tournament amidst ihe cheers of the members and Mr T. Lin:l declared Venn and 0. Stephenson the l winners of' the president's and vice-presidenfs medals. In a friendly game between Butts and Gunning', th:» formei '.von by 19 to 16.. The young ladies of the club provided tea. On the tennis courts many friendly games were played. On Saturday last, a team from Linton visited Shannon and tried conclusions with the local tennis players. The result was an easy win for Shannon.
The Hookey Clubs had an opning practice on the recreation reserve, hot!) ladies' and men's cluhs combined, and had a good game from 2.-°>o p.m. till 5 p.m. Ou Sunday last special harvest thanksgiving services were held in the Yen "Rede's Church. The Yen. Archdeacon Coinins conducted the service in the morning and the I\v. C. Palmer preached an eio(|uent sermon in the evening in the course of which he urged on bis hearers the importance of expressing their gratitude to God by attending Divine Service. The Church was prettily decorated and the fruit and vegetables were sent to ilie All Saints' Children's Home in Palmerston North.
The present cold days are creating a demand for coals. Ladies will find a splendid range of cosy, stylish coats at Fargher and Co'a., Shannon, and also one of the best selections of correct millinery. All the newest colours, shapes and mounts find plenty to select from. — Advt.
