He writes us that of all the sights he saw in Auckland tile niosf gratifying was that afforded by a sight of the Horowhenua Daily Chronicle in Auckland Public Library ! The Y.M.C.A. v. Foxfon cricket match, played yesi onlay on the Levin recreation rose I've, was won by the latter with runs to spare. Y.M.C.A. made 2f! and •their opponents 55. Foxton is thus the. winning team in this year's competition. "Two-lip" a.t the flax mills of the Mnnawafn disti'ict was the subject of a recent letter in The Chronicle. in reprinting the loiter, The Mauawatu Herald ('Foxton) makes the following coiihikm.il : "We cannot answer for all the owners, but we must correct the .sweeping statements in reference to the indifference of nil the mill owners. We know of several millers who have not only appealed to the police on the subject, bul have warned employees that indulgence in the game on iheir property carried with if instaui dismissal. The same strict rule is enforced in respect to carrying intoxicating liquor to the camps. If is practically impossible for all employers to stamp out these si bonis unless the employees loyally back them up. As for schemes for brightening the men's lives, can it be denied that certain of the employers in this district have expended hundreds of pounds in entering for their employees' comfort? Tn imy case the moral uplift of fhe employees could, with advantage, hr left in flu- hands of those who are paid fo look after the interest of the employees."
