MORE LIGHT WANTED
(To the Editor). I £>ir, — \\ itii me approach of the long winter nights, tne need 01 a street lamp between j\iako Jlako load and .Durham street, in Weraroa road, becomes more and more apparent. On a dark night the plight of a wayfarer along this 4UU or oUO yards stretch of unlighted roadway is like that of a wanderer in a Cimmerian vale. I notice by the last report of the gas committee that the make of gas for the month shows an increase over thai for the corresponding period of last year, aod I contend that the council could profitably bum some of it on this road. At present it is highly dangerous; only the other night a. woman and i were almost ridden down by i person on horseback. We arc liumble folk in this part of the ;own, and if the councillors canlot give us a lamp we will be sailed if they will plant colonies )f glow-worms along both sides of he roadwr y. Thanking you, Mr Editor, and the Councillors, in anicipation.—Tours, etc., A RATEPAYER.
