EVENTS IN SHANNON
(Chronicled by our Resident ' Representative). ROWLING AND TENNIS. There were goodly gatherings of bowlers and tenuis plavers at the green on Wednesday "afternoon. The bowlers continued the matches for the President's and VicePresident's trophies. Gaffney and E. Butts beat Boultbee and Lind by :j.j to 10. Eargher and Gnlland (skip) played Roos and Roach (skip); the former scored IT to the latter's 10. Seven heads Ito play. Cla-yton and Bromley (skip) scored 21 against Venn and G. >~ Stephenson (skip), who made 22. Gibson and Voysey (skip) scored LS against Gardiner and Knowles (skip) who scored 21. On the tennis courts friendly games were played. Mrs Eargher and .Mrs Merwood provided tea. The. following persons have consented to act as judges for the Horicultural Show to "be held on March 13th and 14th, in the Druids Hall, under the management of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild : Pot plants and cut blooms, Mr Foster-Pratt, of Palmerston .North: gardei} produce, fruit and farm produce, Mr A. J, Shailer, of Palmerston North: decorative, Miss M. Prouse, of Levin; cookery, Mr E. O. Smith, of Levin; home industries, Mrs W. M. Clark, of Levin; fancv work and sewing, Mrs Croucher, of Palmerston North. The trophies, which will be offered us points prizes for the various sections, are on exhibition in Mr Murray's windows. A very considerable amount is being offered in prizes, and there* should be a goodly number of entries. The committee have in securing the services . of very competent .judges. Mr JJovis presided, and in a few, well-chosen words presented Mi Cook will) a purse of sovereigns and Mrs Cook with a salad bowl, on behalf of their friends in Shannon. Mo Coific sufjablv acknowledged the gifts. A few musical items and "Auld Lang Syne" brought a very pleasant evening jo a close. Mr H. Hook has Jaken over the bail-dressing and'tobacconist business, and bis hiends wish him every success.
