When these abattoirs became operative here certain -sideline industries are sure to spring up such as i| U! making of sausag'e casing's, llie puiing- oi skins, etc. and quite an appreciable increase will be lrntde to (lie industrial activities ot tiie town. Levin has recovered from (lie set-back of two or tliiee years ago, and her population is increasing. Probably tliere will be. two thousand people within the borough before another two years elapse. In that event it will become a statutory duty of the iiorougli Council to erect municipal abattoirs. Meanwhile (lie (juestion arises whether in the interests of the whole community it Mould be bettter to expedite the construction of the abattoirs. Any butcher who desired to have meil ' slaughtered uu other public places would be at liberty to do so, provided lie paid the local authority its yearly per capita W 5 that safeguard is given specifically under the Act. The pros and cons of' the municipal abattoirs hav(: been debated publicly and privately on many prej vious occasions, but if needs be ! they should be debated further, j and persistently. The abattoirs are bound to come to Levin within I :i year or two: but in ths- besl interests of the town (he abattoirs ; should be built before the statutory obligation io do so forces tlie hands of the community.
