Auckland, Feb. ~0. It was convened at the iustance of the Port Albert fruitgrowers, and is primarily the result of the rapid increase in the apple production of the north.

The speaker moved:—"That in the opinion of this meeting of fruitgrowers the time has arrived when in the interests of the industry and of the public a commercial union or association of the fruitgrowers' associations in the province is desirable." After lengthy discussion, the motion was carried, ond a committee was set up. to make preliminary arrangements. KILLED BY A TRAIL CAR.

Wellington, This Day. A"t the inquest on Frank Hector Christie, of Wanganui,. Avho died as the result of injuries received by being knocked doAvn by a tram car, the coroner said the evidence showed that deceased Avas a man of about 69 years of age. Avas temperate, and in full possession of his sight and hearing. It seemed extraordinary that such an accident should have happened, because the night was fairly calm and the street aa'cll lighted. He could not say that any blame attached to the motorman. A verdict was returned that deceased died from injuries, caused by being accidentally knocked down by a tram car.
