PIPE BRIDGE TENDERS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l wish to draw your attention to your report of the Council meeting re pipe bridge. You make it appear 1 waited till 1 saw the other prices and then withdrew. I contracted to do the top of the bridge only, whereas the other tenders were to do the uuder-side as well. 1 explained to the Town Clerk and told him I was still prepared to do the top of the bridge at my price and he accepted.my explanation. Kindly publish same and oblige.—2 am, etc., F. C. BOOTH. Cambridge-street. [The Chronicle's .report was perfectly accurate. The specifications drawn up by the council clearly and unambiguously provided for the painting- of the top and under side of the bridge "the whole of the visible structure") and all three tenderers made up their tenders from the same specifications. The borough council accepted Mr Booth's .tender after full discussion, at the end of which the opinion was expressed that as the specifications wei'e clear there could have been no misunderstanding, although there was great disparity in the tend-' ers.— Editor, Chronicle'.]
