At Saturday's meeting of the Jlorowhonua County Council there were present Councillor* H. •). Uichards (chairman, 1 , J Ik'J], -I. I'rouse, G. Watson, fj. A. Atonic, 11. I'reeman, A. Drake, i'. W. Venn, and Cr. Stephenson. Ivairanga County Council's application for a grant in aid of Scotts' road was refused. Councillor Venn mentioned 'that all the rates raised from that road by liorowhenua County Council were being handed over to Kair;inga County, as' resolved upon Mime years ago. In regard to the application of 2\lr Smith (of "The Heights, Shannon) for a diversion of the present road, so as to give access to his section, the council resolved that the county engineer approach the Public Works Department and ascertain if any objection would be made by that department against the proposed deviation. Mr Sime's fear of a prosecution on account of damage done to a neighbour's land was briefly referred to as unnecessary. No action was taken by the council. The Tokonuuu Valley Road objectors were metaphorically blown into the swamp by a return submitted by (he County Clerk. This showed that not only the loan moneys had been expended oil.the works, but an extra sum of £84 los Id had been spent on the road out of general funds. The total expenditure on the Tokomaru Valley Road works has been i' 2584 15s 'id.
The council resolved to oiler the St raker waggon to Mr Thurston, of Port Ahuriri, for £150.
Otaki Dairy Company's application for permission to drain effluent into the Otaki -River was discussed. Councillor Monk doubted if the council had power, but the County Engineer remarked that the council had charge oi all waters in the county that were not in charge of a drainage board, on Councillor Richard's suggestion, the council granted the authority subject to the company giving a wiitten indemnity. Accounts totalling £o()49 were passed for payment. About half of this amount consisted of loan moneys.
Mr Guy's otter.to maintain a sireet lamp at the corner of Matipo street, Tokoinaru, was accepted. The- council is to erect the lamp. Oil the motion of Councillor Stephenson, seconded by Councillor Venn, it was resolved "That acting on the advice of its solicitor the council proceed with the expenditure of the siakerua roads loan "
It was resolved on the motion of Councillor Freeman, seconded by Councillor Drake, that the ranger be allowed to collect the dog tax in the Town Board District of Otaki, as requested by that board. The council decided to get out estimates of cost at once for the metalling of Potts's road, Levin, as asked for l>y several petitioners having 1 farms in the locality.. AVhen the ratepayers' consent is obtained for a loan a beginning will be made with the work, but when wet weather comes on it will bave to be hung up. In answer to Mr Simpson, who acted as spokesman for the deputation, it was decided to fill in the worst of the holes now existing,on the road. y Mr Saint presented a petition from several ratepayers asking that Kuku East road be formed in parts, and raised and repaired, and a bridge be put over the upper creek. The petition said that in one part there was an almost impassable bog during the winter months. The county engineer said the work asked for was necessary, but until the new estimates were made there would be no money available. Eventually it was decided that estimates be prepared as to the cost of the work, and submitted to next meeting of the council. Mention was made by Councillor Yenn that the planks in the Shannon,Manawatu bridge were like rainbows, through buckling in the centre. The County Engineer said that the planks had ln-en bolted down since Councillor Venn saw them. •On the motion of Councillor Stephenson, seconded by Councillor Venn, it was resolved that Mi- H. Logan be authorised to collect the royalty on all metal taken from Thompson street, Shannon: the royalty to be expended in the upkeep of that portion of Thompson street. Councillor AVatson moved and Councillor Monk seconded a motion "That Mr Field be asked to exchange a piece of land at the end of AVaikanae Beach Ivoad for road purposes, owing to the fact that the present track encroaches upon his land." This was carried.

Joll's tenders for loading trucks at Ohau and delivering metal on the Ko-putaroa-Foxton road at 2s 7d per yard, (is per yard and its per yard for the respective portions of the contract, also were accepted. Councillor Monk moved, Councillor Watson seconded, and it was resolved: "That in pursuance of section 13 (2) of The Counties Amendment Act, 1913, this council hereby proposes the following alteration in the southern boundary of the Horowhenua County and the Hutt County in lieu of the existing boundary:---
"From the Waikanae the "War kanae Bridge by a line urawn ii a north-easterly direction to i
point where the great western line intersects the Waikanae-Reikior-,mgi road, thence following the jine of the said Wailjianae-Rci-kiorangi road to the Upper Ngatiawa bridge."
