THE SOUTHERN MARKETS

Christchurch, Feb. 10

Fine weather having again set in, harvesting operations have been resumed, and farmers are too busy to come into town to offer grain for sale. There is practically nothing doing in the grain market.

The rain appears to have done but little damage to the grain in North Canterbury, though some of the barley may have suffered discoloration. For this cereal 3s Td appears to be the top price at country stations for prime malting. At the present time very little grass seed has been offered. Sales have been made up to 2s Id at country stations, but this was for a very good line, and it has been bought as low as Is 7d. The potato market is still at a standstill, the opening price not having been fixed.
