» Yesterday a Chronicle representative had the pleasure oi looking through Mr H. Walkley's' greenhouses in Weraroa road, Levin, where at present there is to be seen a magnificent show of begonias. Mr Walkiey specialises in the culture of these handsome plants, and this year he lias quite a fine show of begonias that were propagated by himself. A summons issued oh "behalf of M. E. I{. Thompson against the .Levin Borough Council, for £•")!) ou account of insurance, was called on at Levin S.M. Court co-nay and further adjourned tor two weeks, on the applieatyon of the borough's counsel. JKeports on other cases heard to-day will appear in to-forrqw's Chronicle. A judgment sitnmons case heard by Mr Poynton, S.M., at Levin to-day was that of E. ('. Higgins v. D. N. Miller, for £17 Us 0(1 due for board. Defendant, in a letter undertook to r.ieet the debt by instalments. The magistrate ordered Miller to pay the debt or go to prison for eighteen days, but the warrant is to be suspended as long as debtor pays per month off the debt. Mr Blenkhorn appeared as counsel for plain tifl.'. A dispute over an account due by W. H. Gallieh 111 (as president I 01 Levin Druids' Lodge) to E. C". Hodgman was ventilated at Levin S.M. Court to-day. The claim was for £2 ss, but defendantswore he had paid £1 of this already. As he had failed to give notice of infention to defend the ease, Mr Blenkhorn (counsel for plaintiff) had not brought, his client to give evidence, [flic magistrate decided to adjouriiTlie ease for two weeks, at the court's expense, to allow of plaintiff being called.
