At the quarterly . meeting , of I'almorston -North Cliainbur v of Commerce Mr Eliott moved "that it is liighly desirable iu the interests of farmers and others dealing with live stock a separate district be formed, extending , from I'oxton to Woodville and Levin to Halcombe, to facilitate and deal with tho supply of waggons for. the conveyance of live stock and produce; that a copy be sent to I'eilding Chamber of Commerce for support and to the General Manager." Mr Eliott said tho whole of the waggon supply for Feilding and this district was dealt with by AYanganui. It meant (hat if there was a supply of waggons at Palmerston, and. Feilding wanted them, application had to be made to Wanganui. Mr Broad said Palmerston should be made a chief district controlling railway matters. There were hundreds of small matters that could be dealt with by a district manager stationed there. The chairman said the request may be reasonable enough but at the same time he could see difficulties ahead for , the Hail way Department, if they made a district traffic office here did they think the;.' Department would run two district offices within GO miles of each other ? And on the other hand, could they transfer their staff from Wanganui down here. Mr Eliott said his intention was to get one responsible officer here to deal with, the supply ot trucks in Palmerston.
