IN REPLY TO DAIRYFARMER.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Being away from home, I did not see ''Dairyfarmer's" letter of Saturday, the 27 th inst., till to-day. So will just give a few lines now in reply. My words were "fog-making apparatus," not as he says, "joy-maKmg apparatus:" The earlier edition of The Chronicle distributed at our end 1 gave the correct words. Evidently the later Levin portion appeared faulty. This referred to the baby-pap served out to farmers as political wisdom. 'Dairyfarmer" bases his puzzled quesi, ' tjons to this writer on the assump- ;?" tion that my "socialist friends"! (the watersiders) blocked the farmers' butter, etc. JLJut this is a mistake. The watersiders were the door that stood locked by the hand of the Employers' and Squatters' Federation, purely as a convenient strategical move; so the latter blocked the farmers' butter, and "Dairyfarmer's" questions should be addressed to them. Waihi, Huntly, Kaitangata, Tiniaru, and last Wellington waterside strikes were all strikes brought about as part of a care-fully-considered scheme to destroy militant unionism and replace it by a retrograde substitute. This is a widespread move of the financial bugs the world over. They say: "Will you workers go on and be good profit-prcdueing mules as in the past, and let us mind the boodle?" "Ts'o!" say the workers; "we want to be men." "Well, then, you shall be made to," say the employers.-Yours, H. LEGER. Weraroa, Jan. 27, 1914.
