St/- : Mary's Anglican School Picnic. « „ - The picnic party numbering a hundred had a most enjoyable time at Paekakariki on Wednesday last. Owing; to the distance from Levin, the early hour of starting, and the supposed danger of a trip "to the seaside, quite a number of the scholars were not present. Seeing that the whole day's proceedings passed off without a hitch, probably a much larger percentage of scholars will put in an appcaranee next year, should the school again pay , a visit to Paekakariki, which is very likely. The picnic party left Levin at the early hour of 5.38 a.m., and on reaching their destination, refreshments were provided on the beach, after which the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves paddling in the water or bathing in the surf. The scholars iwere greatly interested by four or five porpoises_ which put in an appearance quite close to the shore. Tea was provided at 5.50, and the party soon afterwards made its way to the station and entrained for Levin, which was reached about 8 o'clock. The picnic party arrived home in high spirits, and it was obvious that a highly enjoyable time had been passed. _J . ™
