Mr Wickham, the British Trade Commissioner for New Zea- . landj intends leaving on the 30th January for England. He has > received instruction to remain in the United Kingdom for three or four months, visiting the leading industrial centres, and at the respective Chambers of Commerce, giving private interviews < to all firms desirous of seeing him. Any New Zealand representatives of British firms wishing their principals to see the Commissioner should write to him to this effect. The Commissioner's office at Wellington will continue working during Mr Wickkam's absence. WEST COAST JUBILEE. ' Hokitika, This Day. The weather continues glorious . for the Jubliee celebrationsj and all functions are passing oif most successfully. The Jubilee ball brought together a great crush. Two long trains left for Ross, where a day's festivities are arranged for, and the excursionists return to Hokitika for a Reworks display to-night. The Governor to-day is visiting the hospital and public institutions, leaving then for Greymouth. The pioneers are delighted with their treatment and are loud in their praise of the hospitality shown them. Visiting Parliamentarians all are delighted with prospects ahead of Westland. Replying to a deputation the Minister for Publiq Works said he intended to push on the completion of tlieOtira tunnel as quickly as possible. A PECULIAR CASE. Wellington tjanuary 9. ■- Hector Gosse, a 14-year-old boy residing at Lower Hutt, disappeared from his home on Wednesday morning and has not been heard of since. The boy's mother is anxious concerning his welfare, and cannot account for his strange behaviour. He had about £2 in money
with him when he went away, stating that he was going to "strike out on his own." Numerous telegrams have been • sent to relatives in different parts of the country, but up to the present nothing of, his whereabouts has been heard.
