He pr r asked that .the main approach at / :. r least be improved. s Councillor _ Freeman said he thought the Ote&i Town Board had taken over this road, but the Uounty Engineer eitplained that board had declined to do so. Councillor j Monk said there was no doubt i the cemetery was in a deplorable - statethe trustees who were responsible to the council should make an appeal to' the public if there was no other "way of raising funds. There was no worse cemetery anywhere than Otaki's. f .Councillor Yenn: "Question! f Shannon's cemetery is wtose!" Councillor Venn went on to say that neglect of cemeteries was characteristic of New Zealand {. there was no nation anywhere that showed less. Irespect to its dead than New Zealand did. Councillor Monk suggested that Otaki Town Board be asked to co-oper-ate. , Councillor Freeman men- " tioned that a small sum of money was in hand (some £25) and lie wiis willing to have expenditures made out.'of this. The council finally authorised Councillor Free--fiian—as trustee — to make whatever expenditures were immediately necessary. •■ - Mr G. H. The matter was left to the chairman and 1 engineer to deal with. Mr George Phillips, the council's roadman, asked for ; the use of a gravel reserve for purposes of grazing his horse — Permission granted. H. Logan j Shannon, asked what portion of Thompson street would be attended to . Councillor Stephenson said a promise to attend I . to it was. made three months ago, and the work' wag urgently needed. Councillor Yenn said that onlj Messrs Woods, Logan and Skinner were interested in this road 7 and they were . willing to have the road closed. It was being cut up and damaged by metal carters.—The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and engineer. .
