The printers" strike has extended to Launceston, and the mechanical staff of the Examiner has raised a protest against the proprietors assisting in the publication of the papers. N.S.W. RAILWAYS. Mr Griffiths, the Minister for Public Works, has announced that he will spend one or two millions 'sterling on railway construction during the current year. At the Railway Workers' Conference complaints were made that hundreds of sly-grog shanties are run in the vicinity of the various railway construction camps and that liquor of the vilest dosription was sold which son! the men mad. Police supervision is practically non-existent, and the Government was urged to adopt stricter supervision. SETTLEMENT liN SIGHT. Sydney This Day. Indications point to an early settlement of the musicians' trouble, by the granting of the demands by several Melbourne proprietors connected with the trouble. 'The demand is for the payment of 10s for every performance, including matinees.
