Calumet Tragedy
e— . SHEETING HOME THE BLAME. (Sydney Sun). New York, December 27. Mr Moyer, the president oi : the Western federation of Miners, has telegraphed demanding federal investigation into the Calumet disaster. It is not known yet whether the Government has any jurisdiction in such a case. Four separate investigations regarding the tragedy arc being held. A dispute is going on as to wiio will bury the dead. The Citizens' Alliance, an organisation which is hostile to"the miners who are on strike, lias; offered to defray aIJ the burial expenses, but the miners say they will bury their own dead. Miss Grace McrtDarron/wlio lias arrived at Chicago, says positively that the story of tne panic being started by a man poking his liead through tlie door and crying fire is untrue. The alarm was started in the h;all when a little blaze broke out on a Christmas tree. Someone then oalled out "Fire!" and tlie cry was taken up. President Wilson has beon asked to institute an inquiry to fix the responsibility of the Italian Hnll tragedy. The strikers are insinuating t Jiat the townspeople, who are hostile to them, have been guilty of foul play.
