As the Levin Town Clerk was working out au intricate calculation of interest on 'Borough loans this morning he was disturbed by a knock at the door of his office. Thinking that some New Year good-resolutionist had called in early to pay his rates, the Town Clerk opened the door promptly. There he was, the County Clerk's terrier, mildly wagging an abbreviated tail, and wordlessly asking where his master was. <; H-0 s away on his holidays, Peter, said the Town Clerk; whereupon "Peter" led-the way to the street and went to the Post Office vestibule to sec the "Welington mail cleaied from the private boxes. Mr and Mrs Yal. Hilchiugs, junior, left Levin to-day for the South Island. They will take a month's vacation 111 Timaru, and 110 doubt Mr Hitchings's health will be completely restored by the holiday.
