'•HANDY A.NDY
The above production, to be played by (Jliurles Archer's draimilk- students on .Boxing nigltl, in Levin, is a rollicking Irish comedy drama, founded on the .famous old story- by Samuel. Lover, so deal , to every reader of Irish fiction. Mr Charles Archer is a well-known performer in these parts, both as- a local resident in connection with the Levin Dramatic Society and also as a professional. He played in Levin on many occasions with the- Henry Dramatic Company, the Fitz-Maurice-Gill Company, and the Taylor-Carrington Company, He will appear on this visit in the title role of "Handy Andy," and is supported by Miss S. Hodge, Miss M. Clayton, Miss Doris lluyniond and Miss Brown, with a strong company of amateurs, forming his dramatic- students. Of the play, the story, briefly told, deals with the misfortunes 'of "Handy Andy," the quaint Irish bhoy, who commits every blunder under the sun. and yet seems to come out on top every time. Mad Xance, a queer, mysterious woman, is looking for papers stolen from her by O'Grady, the villian, and also for a long iost son. The papers are the proofs of her rights to a property which O'Grady has usurped; also her marriage, certificate is stolen by him. There is a lawsuit pending between O'Grady and Squire Egan (Handy's employer), in conjunction Avith Edward O'Connor, who. is also trying to get the lost, title, deeds.
Andy, by a .series of tricks and blunders, contrives to.bring Furlong- (a silly "dude" in the cjmploy of O'Grndy) to Squire Egah's house in mistake for Squire ,0 - Gracly's. Furlong, who has never met O'Grady personally, gives the plans of the case away to Squire Egan. • in the end* after many ups and downsTHandy Andy, saves Mad Nance from being murdered by OTirady; assists Nance to recover the papers, and finds himself in possession of a title and discovers that Had Nance is his mother. He also wins Donah ltooney, the sweet Irish colleen, for his wife. Edward O'Connor loses the case but wins in his turn the hand of Fan- . Ny Dawson, the niece and ward of Squire Egan. VilHany is as usual frustrated, and Handy Andy's "blunders small are ended all."
