Australian Cables.

klecteic telegraph—copyright, [per press association.] (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) STATE GOVERNORS. Perth, This Day. Correspondence between the Imperial authorities and the Premier, regarding a resolution passed by the Assembly in November of last year, asking the Colonial Office to reconsider flic question of the appointment of Slate Governors, with a view to permitting the citizens of the Commonwealth to occupy the office, has been published. The Right Hon. Lewis Harcourt's reply, while attaching great weight to the proposal, which was supported by the Assembly and endorsed by the Ministers, states that no change in the present system could be entertained unless it applied to all the Australian States, and public opinion made an overwhelming demonstration in its favour.
