Horowhenua County Council.

AXIS DAL AND MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council is being hold this morning," Councillor Stephenson in the chair. The occasion also is the annual meeting of the council, at which the election of a chairman for the - ensuing twelve months takes place. Details of the business transacted will appear in a future issue of The Chronicle. Correspondence was received and read as follows — From Mr I. S. Wilkinson, Shannon, drawing {he attention of the council to certain nuisances committed by a neighbour, and asking the council to remedy the same. He added that if tlu: council would not act lie would take other steps to stop the nuisance. From Mr L. 11. Greonaway, pointing out that a considerable portion of the year had now elapsed and that nothing had been done to complete the formation and metalling of the Waikanac Beach road. Therefore he withdrew the petition formerly presented to the council asking for the completion of the road, and he also withdrew all undertaking on his part contained therein. From Mr T. P. Wallace, secretary of the Institute of Local Government Engineers, informing the council that the annual of 'the Institute would bo held in Auckland, and asking' thai the engineer or a representative of the council be present From Mr G. H. Stiles, asking that the council put a swing budge for foot traffic across tn'o Makikika stream. At present lie only crossing is a log, and t is quite impossible to cross if the stream is at all high. From the Public acknowledging the receipt, of four debentures forwarded on the 2(>th November, and notifying the council that, the sum 'of £2T ( JI 12s (id had been remitted.

Prom Mr J. Robertson, M.P,., stating' that he would do his best to assist i(,> have Section Pj of the Counties' Amendment Bill made retrospective. Mr H. D. Atkinson, secretary jN'.Z.C.A., giving counsel's opinion on (1) Piver protective works: erosion, 'liability, boundaries: (2) subdivision of land; bond; special rates to pay foi reading of subdivision. ' And slating' that he was directed by the President of the iV.Z.C.A. to slate (1) "That he does not think further opinion is required; the general law has been explained in the previous opinions: any special deviations in the case do not seem to call for lurther opinlie thinks that this application is not suthcienlly general in character, at the present time_ it is an application for a special opinion for advice in a more or less hypothetical case." Messrs Gray and Jackson, solicitors, Wellington, wrote—" AVe have been instructed by Mr Andrew Anderson with reference to his claim for compensation arising- out of the accident which befel him while working as a carpenter for Mr iVorman Campbell on the Atiawa bridge, which' Mr Campbell erected under contract with the Horowhonua County Council . ... Mr Campbell informs us, that while recognising' his liability in the matter he is not in a financial position to pay compensation. We,, are instrue--led, therefore, to write to you and ask what provision the Council is prepared to make for our client. Anderson has b""n quife unable to follow his occupation since the accident, and he is advised that it will be some months yet before he is able to return to work."

Mr P. Edward, Shannon, sought permission to erect a gate on Pretoria road, so as to prevent his horses and cows from getting awiiy.
