The Shannon bowlers paid a visit io Palmerstoii North on Wednesday and had a match against the bowlers of the city with the big , square. A k)\v players mustered on the Shannon green, and a scratch match was played. Gibson and Knowles (skip) met Eraser (i> visitor from Dunedin) and Venn (skip). Knowles won bv '12 Io 18. • On the ioniiis court the women's and men's handicap singles (or Miss Dunckley's and Mr Duncklcy's trophies) were got oil' on A\ r odn(!sday afternoon. There was an exceptionally lar»e attendance of players, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent. Miss Laurvig was successful in winning the ladies trophy, beating Miss Linsell by the narrow margin of three points, after a hard-fought and interesting contest. The men's games have not been completed, and the" finals and semi-finals will be played off during the week. The committee wishes to lhank those who gave their assistance as scorers. The results are as follows :-—

Mrs Doidge beat Mrs Bromley, 30 25: Mrs Linsell beat Mrs Menvood, 30 23; Mis L;mrvig beat Miss Pedersen, 30 19; Miss Laurvig beat" Aliss Tremewan, 30 —22; Aliss Xnowles beal Miss Gardner, 30-22; Aliss Dunckley beat Aiiss Carter, 30 21 : Miss Hughes beat Miss Kyan, 30-23. 2nd Round. Mrs Doidyo beat .Miss Hughes, 30 23; Miss Linsell beat Miss Knowles. 30 24: Airs Laurvig beat Airs Dunckley, 30 28: Miss Laurvig a bye. 3rd Round. Aliss LaurviiT beat Ales Doidyc, 30-27: Aliss Linsell beat Mrs Laurvig, 30—15. Finals. Miss Laurvig beat Miss Linsell, 30-27. Airs Gardiner and Mrs Gallaud provided tea. Mr John Tulley, an old and much respected resident of Shannon, died in the Wellington hospital on Wednesday morning.
