Mr I. Hook, the Borough overseer, reported: During the month the channelling and kerhing in Bath-street has been completed. The drain in Kawiu road has also been completed, its grcates depth is three feet. The culvert in Queenswood road will need to be enlarged, so as to connect with the present drain which takes the water to the old water course. Mr Butt has raised the question of placing culverts in the drain across the Kawiu road. The present drain is blocked at the entrance. Everything in connection with the waterworks—with the exception of the water-meter which is out of order—has been satisfactory during the month. Tarring' anil sanding will be proceeded with as soon as the weather permits.
Cr Prance said the drain in Kawiu road had cut off access to several properties and Jie considered that a culvert with li-ineh pipes was necessary. Councillor Lancaster agreed that something should he done to relieve those whose sections had been cut off. The Mayor said that whatever expense was incurred m the matter the County Council would ho liable for half the cost. Councillor France expressed the opinion that if anyone met with an accident the Council would he liable. Councillor Lancaster moved: "That the matter hp to the streets committee." Councillor France seconded the motion.. The motion was agreed to.
