An improvement has taken place in the condition of Mr Y. Hitohings, junior, who has been in a precarious state of health during the last ten days. At Hawera show, Mr H. J. Condor's (Levin) fawn pugs "scooped the pool" in their classes. They gained first place in the opeu dog class, first in open bitches, special for best fawn pug dog, and special for best fawn pug bitch. A special meeting of the Otaki Town Board was held on Thursday last to consider the reports of Mr A. J. Patterson on the highpressure water, electric lighting and sewerage schemes. After Mr Patterson had explained the schemes and answered several questions the chairman moved and Commissioner McKie seconded: "Thai this special meeting of the Hoard recommends that No. -J scheme and the electric lighting scheme, at" an estimated cost of ,£15.857, and the sewerage scheme at an estimated cost of £12,000 be placed before the ratepayers. The motion was carried unanimously. A general meeting of members of the Wellington Dairy Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., unanimously resolved "That .this meeting wishes to express its appreciation of the able and • firm manner in which the Government have dealt with the present Labour troubles, and also that it trusts they will continue to uphold their present attitude. , ' The high winds that have prevailed during the last few days in I lie Palmersion district, although doing damage to the fruit crop of I lie district, have m>l proved so disastrous as they would have done if they had been experienced a mouth earlier. The fruit in most cases has reached a fair size, and thus has been better able to withstand the force of the gales. Peaches and nectarines have suffered most, being brought down in fan quantities in some orchards. Some varieties of apples have also sullered slightly. The greatest damage has been done to the eheriT crop, rain and wind causing the fruit to crack, and thus spoiling it for the market. Manawatu Standard.
