Our readers will fina in this issue an advertisement of the Horowhenua Horticultural and Industrial Society's (Otaki) Spring Sliowj which takes place on Wednesday of next week, just a week later than our Levin show. As these two shows are so close, both in time and distance, they afford a good opportunity for friendly rivalry, and it is to be hoped a large number of our local exhibitors will patronise the southern show. Au extensive list of special prizes will be given, as shown in the schedule, copies of which can be obtained from the secretarv, Mr l\. Hell, Otaki. Levin tradespeople are complaining bitterly about the failure of several farmers in meeting their bills. In some instances these have been owing for long periods, aud the tradesmen take it amiss (after the record sum of nearly £4000 having, been paid out by tlie Dairy Factory last week) that the town .should be suffering still from scarcity of money. A tradesman who called in at Tin* Chronicle office to make this complaint said he was of opinion that, some farmers had been so scared by the strike that they were afraid to spend the money now they had it. This, he said, was most unfair to tradespeople who had teen reckoning on using the . Novemb r payments for 'liquidation of their own accounts, due to warehousemen and their fellow tradespeople.
