THE STRIKE
ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COI'YItIGJITi [PJSH PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (lteeeived This Day, 10.5 a.m.)" Sydney, This Day. The Labour Council has issued an appeal to the unions on,behalf of the New Zealand strikers. AFFAIKS AT AUCKLAND. [per piless association.] Auckland, This Day. An statement by the strike committee is to the effect that the report is incorrect that it has been decided to call the strike oft' except for the transport work- ■ ers. It is admitted flint if an agreement was arrived at, it would be good strategy to allow all other unions to resume work and contribute to keep a section of the strike alive. Certain unions, however, refused to resume, even on the advice of the central strike committee. These unions are the brewery employees, general labourers, Har- I hour Board employees, hotels and restaurant workers, and bricklayers. It may be taken that the general strike is off except for the transport unions and those enumerated. CARTELS PLENTIFUL. Wellington, This Day. The appearance of the wharves this mormn.u' did not bear out the reported shortage of drivers. For one steamer alone, thirty vehicles were lined up with transhipments, and the scene was one of excep- , tional activity. The new union has a membership of 1100, including 100 strikers.
