THE BEACH ROAD. THANKS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I would like to take the opportunity (now the present improvements to the Beach lioad are completed) to thank those who so hem-lily responded to the appeal for funds, and thus enabled this much-needed work to be carried out. On behalf of the town and district let me assure them that /heir generous donations and the support given to the late concert and dance are much appreciated. Outing fo the beach will now be made much more enjoyable, not only for tlie adults, but also for the children. The donations promised and received to date are about £36, and with the proceeds of the late concert (about N £24) make the total £GO. The expenditure so far has been as follows:— Contract, £'125 17s 4d, including two bridges and formation; a furthei twelve chains of formation was added to the contract at a cost of £19, this, together with fencing and other details, will bring the cost to about £160, inclusive of the County Council's £100. Your readers will gather that nothing will remain in hand for planting and making a few more necessary improvements to keep the road from being injured by sand drifts, etc. What is required is about another £10 so that a few small plantations could be made and willow and other trees planted; these would give picnic parties protection from the sun and' winds and would assist very much to popularise the beach. " To those who have not already made donations, and who may be under the impression that sufficient money has been obtained, I trust will now assist in the movement. Once again I tender sincere thanks for the assistance given.—I am, etc., B. 11. GrAKDINEII.
