WEEXLi REPORT
Wellington, October -JU. The position this week in the market is, of course, abnormal. The watersiders' strike is having a marked ell'ect on prices, and the ligures quoted must be considered as being more or less extraordinary, and not a true indication of the nominal values of commodities and produce. However, the position has arisen, and prices for this week are at present very uncertain, and are liable to considerable fluctuation. Potatoes have not only recovered from a weakening tendency of last week, but are now higher than at any time during the season, and stocks are ver\ small. Kggs also took a decided jump, and are liable to go still higher. Poultry, although in short supply and bringing good prices, is not much changed from last week. L'ork is still scarce, and prices good. A good demand has set in for seed maize lor green feeding, and supplies aiu difficult to obtain. A sharp rise in prices may be expected if the strike continues. The newseason's rape is held up by the sirike. There is a great scarcity ol' flour in the city, and prices can lie expected to rise still higher if the strike continues. We have stocks, and can supply our fanner clients, who are advised to book immediately. Chafl' is also much higher, and all grains and soft feed arc advancing. Fruit.—-The second _ shipment of Auckland strawberries peached us this morning, and realised satisfactory prices, with good com- 1 petition". Larger supplies are expected shortly. Hutt rhubarb has sharply advanced, and prices are very high to-day. We have supplies of American apples in hand, which are selling slowly. A'egetables.—No peas are arriving from anywhere, and cannot be quoted, the strike having shut out all supplies from Nelson. All
