CORRESPONDENCE

[Uur correspondents' opinions are their own; the responsibility of editorial ones makes suilicient ballast for the edilor".s boulders.] THE JIOLUUY MUDDLE. (To the Editor.) Sir,- I am quite in accord with the remarks of "Shopkeeper" in youl , issue of Jast night's (Jhronicie in reference to Labour Day holiday. Eor some years, sir, in .Levin, holiday closing has been more or less a horrible muddle, and no unanimity amongst shopkeepers. J think it is high time we got out of the old nil and left the old dictator in the muddle. Let us show him a better example and perhaps lie may be constrained to see the error of his ways, and fall into line with us also. JJy the way, sir, amongsl those who were opened on Labour J)ay was our old labour agitator, who also thought it was not worth Observing with closed doors. Surely something better might have been expected from him. Uur Chamber of Commerce is too slow or eJse too tired to bother about wliat holidays should be observed during the yeai. As a way out of the difficulty, I would suggest that a Holiday Association be formed of all the business men, with an executive committee to run the business of ihe Association. At. the annual meeting a schedule of holidays would be drawn up to be observed during the year, and members can ihen cast voles for or against: the majority ruling. Anyone violating or breaking the derision of the association shall be penalised. 1 think, sir, this would (ill the bill and help ihe public and shopkeepers is> know i"4 wei'e we stand in respect to" holidays. Thanking you, sir. Yours, eh'.., ANOTHER SJTOJ'KEEPER
