Napier, This Day. The Borough Council decided to ask for a loan of .£IO,OOO to purcase two new tramcars and erect tram shelters, etc. A proposal to extend the tram service was also discussed and referred to the engineer and traffic manager to report as to the cost of the service.
The service is proving a great success, whereas it was anticipated that the lighting department would have to make up a deficiency on the trams. r l he latter so'far are showing a good margin of profit even after allowing for depreciation. BIUTISIi POSTAL LiATLS. The Postmaster-General announces than an Act has been passed by the Imperial Pfarliament providing that newspapers published in British possessions can be registered in London. This will reduce the postage on Xew Zealand papers so registered which may be posted _in Britain for delivery in Britain fi-oni one half penny for two ounces to one halfpenny per eopy. . This does not apply to papers published at longer intervals than seven days. The registration fee is us per annum and registration lnis to be renewed from year to year. H.M.B.
